Willie James Nelms Jr., 68, was born on September 15, 1958, in Birmingham, Alabama, and passed away on September 17, 2026.

Willie will be lovingly remembered as a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend, and man of God. He loved the outdoors and he adored teaching his daughter and granddaughters to garden. He enjoyed fishing, playing football with his son and grandson, and riding his bike. Above all, Willie loved spending quality time with his children, grandchildren & beloved family members. Willie was a plumber by trade and was recently retired.

He is survived by his son, Joshua Nelms; daughter, Elena (Nelms) Moore; six grandchildren, Analee, Emery, Micah, Mercy, Mia, and Jubilee; and many other relatives. He joins his late wife, Abby G. Nelms, in heaven.

A public visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. witch a chapel service to begin at 12p.m. in the chapel of Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Willie’s life. Pastor Darryl Sharpe, Willie’s brother, will officiate. Willie’s memory and legacy will live deep in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
