Wilbur Lamoine Brooks, 71, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on March 26, 2026.

Born on January 7, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio, Wilbur was the son of Wilbur L. Brooks Sr. and Geraldine (Sampson) Brooks.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Geraldine Brooks, and his sister, Denise Brooks.

He graduated from South High School in 1973. Following graduation, Wilbur proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service, he built a long and dedicated career as a semi-truck driver, traveling across the United States. Later, he retired from the Columbus City of Refuge, where he continued to serve his community.

Wilbur, affectionately known as “man” to his family, was a fun-loving man who cherished his family above all else. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found his greatest joy in spending time with loved ones. He especially enjoyed backyard barbecues, where he could cook for everyone, share laughter, and bring people together. He loved traveling with his wife, taking family road trips, firing up the grill, and even making trips to Kroger—whether groceries were needed or not.

A passionate sports fan, Wilbur proudly supported the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Brooks; his children, Lauren, Lesley, Lorenzo, and Laura; and his cherished grandchildren, Tarick, Tayler, Tatem, Braylen, Miyen, Nova, Aubrey, Rubi, Lorenzo Jr., and Aria. He also leaves behind bonus grandchildren, Kennady and Antwon. A special cousin Gloria Williams, along with a host of sister & brother in law’s, nieces, nephews & many extended family members and dear friends.

Wilbur will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the joy he brought to every gathering.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a Funeral Service immediately following at Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service 1370 East Main Street Columbus, Ohio 43205.
