SGM (Ret.) Wendell P. Thompson Jr., age 88, of Pickerington, Ohio, was born in Mount Vernon, New York, and passed away on July 19, 2026. Wendell proudly served 30 years in the United States Army, beginning his career in 1963 as Military Police before becoming a Counterintelligence Agent. He served in Vietnam, trained soldiers in Bolivia, and completed assignments in Panama, Japan, Arizona, and California. He retired at Fort Meade, Maryland, as a Sergeant Major in 1993.
While stationed in Panama, Wendell met and married Juanita, the love of his life. He was a devoted father to Tamara Kim and Tanishia Thompson, and a loving stepfather to Denise Martin, Anita Watkins, Renee Richardson, and Romie Watkins III. He cherished his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wendell was a long-time member of Eastside Grace Brethren Church, active in the men’s group and committed to his faith. He enjoyed baking, photography, road trips, cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals, and loved dogs. A skilled marksman, he competed in numerous military shooting events and earned several distinguished awards throughout his career.
He taught his children to save money, never give up, and think before acting. These lessons remain part of his legacy. Wendell will be remembered as a generous, kind father, husband, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received for Visitation at East Side Grace aon Thursday, July 30th, 2026 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, followed immediately by Funeral Services.
Burial will process to Green Lawn Cemetery.
