Mr. Stanley Allen Harris was born October 28, 1949 to Spencer L. Harris Sr. and Helen Allen Harris in Kenbridge, Virginia. He attended school in Lunenburg County, Virginia during the time of segregation. He was one of the first blacks to attend an all white school, graduating from Lunenburg High School in 1967. Stanley continued his education at St. Paul College in Lawrenceville, Virginia. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 serving as an Infantry Solider during the Vietnam conflict. He received an honorable discharge in 1975. Stanley married the love of his life Yolanda Brown October 30, 1998. At the time of his death they had been married 19 years. While his employment was diverse, Stanley was a certificated electrician. He was a "Jack of all Trades". He could do anything; all you had to do was call Stanley and he would come running to help you out. Stanley served as the custodian of St. John AME Church. Keeping the house of the Lord clean was a job he took seriously. He was more than a custodian, he was the plumber, electrician, dishwasher, counselor and friend who never grumbled about working. On Saturdays, Stanley liked to finish cleaning the church around 12am at which time you would find him singing God's praises and praying for everyone. His main purpose for cleaning at night was to anoint the church, pray God's blessings and thank God for all He had done before Sunday service. Stanley accepted Crist at an early age while attending St. Matthew Baptist Church in Kenbridge, Virginia. He was baptized in September 1957. His love for God was evident in his daily life. Stanley was very vocal about his relationship with God and when he started talking about God you were in for a 2 hour conversation about the word of God. Affectionately known as "Stan the Man", "Mr. Stanley" and "Grandpa", he was a loving mentor, friend and confidante who was respected by all. Those who met him can attest that “Stanley never met a stranger”. On May 27, 2018, at the age of 68, Stanley moved to his heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Doris Crawley and Spencer L. Harris Jr. He leaves to celebrate his life and continue his legacy, his loving and devoted wife Yolanda; children, Katrina Evans of Lawrence, Virginia, Camelia Harris of Baltimore, Maryland, John (Johanna) Williams, and Marshana (Paul) Price of Columbus, Ohio; siblings, Scarlett Haskins of Baltimore, Maryland, Silvester (Paula) Harris and Melvin (Laura) Harris of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; brother in laws, Phillip Brown of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Mark (Joanne) Cole of Toledo, Ohio and Michael Cole of Kenosha, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; a special great niece, India Ghee who held a "special place" in his heart; grandson Paul, who was Stanley's "Roaming Buddy"; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
