Robert White, 82, of Columbus, OH, a proud veteran of the United States Army, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 12, 2026.
He is preceded by his wife, Priscilla White, of 52 years, and son Robert Gregory (“Greg”) White. He is survived by his daughter, Michell Ivory, and step-daughters Tarita (Montye) Harris and Stacie Byas. Grandchildren: Wintress, Sterling, Olivia, Candace & Iris Harris. Aunt: Zorado (“Zoe”) White. Aunt-in-Law: Victoria White. Sisters: Louise (James) Crosby, Georgia Goldsmith, Elois (Joey) Walker, and Delois, Yvonne and Ethel White. Brother: James (Glenda) White. Sister- in-law: Betty (George) Rich.
Robert was born in Rock Hill, SC, to the late Rev. Johnny Massey and Jannie Mae White. He honorably served with the 3/4 Calvary Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, 1964-1966. After a tour in Vietnam, he enjoyed a successful 30 year career at the Defense Construction Supply Center (DCSC).
Robert was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church along with other members of the White family. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and follower of the Gospel in his spirit and deeds. Of his many hobbies, he loved to travel, garden, bake, read, and help plan reunions for his family and friends. Robert, the eldest of 10 children, truly loved his family and dear friends, near and far. This includes lifelong childhood friends and classmates from the Emmett Scott High School in Rock Hill, SC, Class of 1960 (including members of the “Friendship 9”): Vivian Vinson, Olivette McClurkin, James Burris, Arthur Williams, Elsie Springs, Amanda Witherspoon, David Williamson, Mary W. Reese, Ida C Potts, Nancy D. Journee, Glenn Camps, Nathaniel Daniel, Elaine J. Copeland, Belton Dunlap and Margaret M. Paden.
Robert’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 12 Noon, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2188 Woodward Ave, Columbus, OH 43219. Arrangements are through Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Services.
As we mourn our loss, we celebrate Robert, a father, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, friend and soldier. We are comforted that he is now in the safety and care of our Lord Savior, Jesus Christ, and free from the illness that took him away from us. Glory & praise be to God! (Romans 5:1)
Friends will be received for Visitation at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Thursday, January 29th, 2026 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm. Services will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church at 12:00 pm on Thursday, January 29th, 2026 until 1:00 pm followed immediately by interment at Kingwood Memorial Park.
