Ralph Lockett Pryor was born May 22, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from North High School and became a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in WWII. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University, then a Master’s degree of Education from Norfolk State University. His career spanned 40 years with the Columbus City Schools in elementary education as a teacher, principal, and finally as an administrator overseeing several schools before he retired. He was committed to seeing children excel through the vehicle of education. Throughout his later years, he often encountered many former students and colleagues, who shared memorable stories. Ralph was a proud fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed traveling and participating in family reunions. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his granddaughter Sydney.
On January 15, 2023, at the age of 95, Ralph departed his earthly life while at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital. He was preceded in death by parents Eugene, Sr. and Mamie Pryor, brothers, Fred, Sr. Milton, Walter, Lewis, Sr., Eugene, Jr., Charles, Thomas; sister, Edith Lee, wife of 67 years, Charlotte, son, David Pryor, daughter-in-law Marilyn Pryor and grandson, DaWit Pryor.
Those remaining to cherish memories of Ralph include son, Dale Pryor (Las Vegas), daughters Theresa Pryor (Columbus) and Tracey Pryor (Westerville), granddaughter Sydney Pryor, nephew Lewis Pryor, Jr. (Virginia), nieces Marilee McDaniel and Yvonne Manns, many other nieces, nephews and friends.
