Phyllis Yvette Harper Jordan was born on March 23, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, and entered into eternal rest on May 21, 2025, in her hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
Phyllis grew up in Whitehall, OH, and graduated from Whitehall-Yearling H.S. She then enrolled at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, where she met and married Paul Jordan, her beloved husband of 48 years. While attending Kent State, she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., earning her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees.
Together, Phyllis and Paul raised their four children in Whitehall, Ohio. Deeply committed to her community for over 60 years, Phyllis served on the Whitehall City School Board of Education from 1990-1993. She was also actively involved in the PTA and athletic booster clubs for more than two decades. As community service was very important to her, she was an avid volunteer, frequently supporting people with intellectual disabilities and the senior community.
Phyllis was a devoted member of Mount Vernon A.M.E. Church, where she married her husband in 1970. Phyllis's loving, caring, compassionate, and kind spirit resonated throughout the lives of anyone she met.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, William and Anna Harper, and her husband, Paul Jordan, and survived by her brother, Rayford Harper (Linda), children, Stephanie, Adrienne, Paula (Grzegorz) and Anthony (Monica), nieces, Yvette (Mary), DaLyn, Heather, Christa and nephew, Mitchell, cousins Jimmy, Valletta (Eddie) and Laura, grandchildren, Kennedy, Lewis, Evan, Reese, and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and family members.
The family will receive guests at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, followed by the service at 2:00 p.m., in Mt. Vernon A.M.E. Church, 1127 Mt. Vernon Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43203. Please wear bright colors as this will be a "Celebration of Life."
