Mildred (Forte’) Thomas, born June 17, 1949, in Grindstone, Pennsylvania to Benjamin and Mildred (Hungerford) Forte’. Mildred Thomas graduated from high school in Pennsylvania. Then she and her family moved to Columbus, where she lived until her death.
Mildred began working working for Ohio Bell Telephone company in various jobs. She transferred to the AT&T’s Marketing (sales) department where she met and married her husband David (Les) Thomas. Mildred from a time that she could remember, had a desire to be a school teacher. She decided to leave At&T and return to college where she obtained a degree in education from The Ohio State University. Mildred began a career as an elementary school teacher in Columbus where she garnered the title “Who’s Who of America Teachers”. She taught in Columbus for 29 years. While a teacher in the school system, Mildred received a master’s degree in education.
Faith in Jesus Christ and God were Mildred’s greatest strengths and guiding force that she brought with her in every facet of her life. Mildred’s greatest interest was with the joy that comes from being a Christian. She was always a church member. When she moved to Columbus, she joined Mt. Olivet Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir on Sunday mornings. She attended church until her illness limited her to video visits on Sunday mornings. During summer breaks from teaching, she would attend bible classes to strengthen her faith and fellowship. She also attended university taught religion classes.
Mildred loved her grandkids. She would go to see them play football and basketball, run track or visit a play to cheer them on. All the while she kept a smile on her face. Whenever she thought of her grandkids, a larger-than-life smile would appear.
Mildred was loved by many and will be missed by those who know her.
Mildred was preceded in death by her father Benjamin Forte’, her mother Mildred Forte’, and two sisters Beatrice Edwards and Jeanie Mae Forte’. She is survived by her Husband David Lester Thomas; sons, Jason Thomas (Rita) and Johnathan Thomas (Kathleen); two brothers Benjamin Forte’ Jr. (Joyce) and Dytanion Forte’ (Marcelyn); sister Benzetta Forte’ and her grandchildren Sebastian Sakchaidtkul, Hayden Thomas, Xzavier Thomas, Austin Thomas, Savannah Morrow, Marcello Thomas and Zora Thomas.
Mildred Traveled a long journey to be at peace with the Lord at last. We will miss you.
