Mildred A. Durham-Woods departed this life on October 4, 2012 at Mount Carmel East Hospital after a long illness a Yorkland Rehabilitation and Care Center. Mildred was the youngest of three children born to the late Elijah and Beatrice Evergin in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from Columbus East High School in 1951 and Franklin University in 1954. Mildred accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Refuge Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership Reverend R.F. Hairston, Senior. She was a retiree of DCSC, she served as a member on the Deaconess Ministry, was a member of the Gospel Choir at Refuge Baptist Church, and also she was a member of the United Inspirational Quire (UIQ) and the Love Choir under the direction of Yvonne Thomas, and Revival Choir under the direction of Francis Pace. Mildred was a loving and devoted wife to Jerry Woods prior to his death. And, was proceeded in death by her father Elijah Grant Evergin, mother Beatrice Mae Catherine Evergin, brother James (Mary – deceased) Evergin, and grandson Donald Durham. She leaves to cherish her memory a sister Bernice Straughter, her six children Angela (William – deceased) Gammon, Antonio, Leonard III, Jeffrey L. (Vicky), and Harold G. Durham, and Dana (Derrick) Cermack, 38 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
