Maurice Grimes

Maurice Grimes was born on April 4, 1939 in Springfield, Ohio to parents Charles and Ruth Grimes. He grew up in the beautiful hills of Ross County in the small town of Bainbridge, Ohio. Maurice graduated from Paint Valley High School in 1957. Upon graduation, he returned to Springfield, Ohio and at a young age, he married Betty Jane and from that union he had two sons, Dano and David Grimes. Several years later, Maurice moved to Columbus, Ohio and began working at OSU Hospital. While at OSU, Maurice developed several lasting friendships; especially one with Amelia Fields, who would later introduce him to her daughter, the love of his life, Donna Jean. On October 7, 1967 Maurice and Donna wed and from this marriage, they had three children, John, Beth and Paul Jason. Early in their marriage, they established Extra –Touch Janitorial Service. As a respected entrepreneur of the community, Maurice gave numerous youth their first jobs. His warm and charismatic personality helped to sustain Extra-Touch Janitorial Service in the greater Columbus area for 45 years. Maurice was also a newspaper carrier for The Columbus Dispatch where he received several outstanding service awards during his 17 years of service. Throughout his life, Maurice traveled and enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to music on wax, tapes, cd and most recently, Pandora. He was an avid sports fan, often watching tennis tournaments in the middle of the night rather than the rebroadcast. He was a lifelong fan of The Cleveland Browns and The Buckeyes. He also enjoyed being “GQ” and shopping for fine clothing. Maurice enjoyed meeting new people, sharing his smile, and sharing colorful stories of his life experiences. Maurice departed his earthly home to live in paradise at 12:22 p.m. on June 6, 2018, holding hands with Donna, his beloved wife of 50 years. Maurice Grimes is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Grimes; brother, Larry Joe Robinson; sister, Norma Jean; brother-in-law, Oscar Tyrone; and mother-in-law, Amelia Fields. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Donna Jean Grimes; daughter, Beth (Chad) Douglas; sons, John (Karen) Grimes, P. Jason (Erica) Grimes, David Grimes, and Dano Grimes; sister, Yvonne (Pete) Nelson; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and very dear friends.
