Mary Hughes Webb transitioned peacefully to her eternal resting place on Friday, March 20, 2015. She was born January 22, 1932 in Jacksonville, Alabama, one of five children of Josephine (Caldwell) and Edward Hughes. Mary accepted Christ into her life at a young age as a member of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Alabama. Mary and Alonzo A. Webb, Sr. were united in holy matrimony and blessed with two children. Mary was devoted to her family near and far and made sure her children understood the importance of family. They took many trips to the South for family reunions and holidays to strengthen the family ties. She also shared this love of the family to include not only relatives, but anyone who crossed her threshold! Her legacy of family love is reflected in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mary's caring nature was shared in the community through her work experience as a nurse's aide and working in Early Childhood Development. She also volunteered for the Young Women's Christian Association. Mary loved home gardening and reading. She was a member of the N.A.A.C.P., Wayman AME Church in Dayton, Ohio, and after moving to Columbus, Mount Vernon AME Church. Mary leaves to cherish her memory, two devoted and grateful children, Valerie (Harvey) Norton, Jr. and Alonzo A. (June) Webb, Jr.; sister Phyllis J. Hardy; five grandchildren, Lauren (Rashawn) Roquemore, Erin Norton, Alexandria Webb, Harvey Alonzo Norton, and Aleesha Webb; four great grandchildren, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
