Martha Remona Williamson

Martha R. Williamson (nee Fulton) of Columbus, passed away Janury 21, 2019 at McNaughten Pointe Skilled Nursing Center in Columbus, Ohio. She was born October 19, 1937 in Charleston, West Virginia and moved to Staten Island, New York in 1957, then relocated to Columbus in 1960.

Martha became an orphan in infancy. She was adopted by her great-uncle Floyd Witcher, and his wife Lucy. She was raised along with their 11 children until adulthood. She graduated from Elkcorn High School in Northfork, West Virginia; Class Of 1956. After graduation she moved to Staten Island, New York, and was employed by deputy district attorney, as a live-in nanny. In 1960 she relocated to Columbus, Ohio, got married, had her first of 4 children, and was a homemaker until 1971. She was employed by Franklin County Human Services as a case worker, from 1971 until 1973. In 1975 she went to work for Goodwin Convalescent Homes, and retired in 1977 due to illness.

She was an accomplished gospel singer, and enjoyed traveling to headline gospel concerts, and give solo performances at church revivals. She enjoyed reading and quoting the Bible, coordinating church events, cleaning her house, and singing.  Oh how she loved to sing.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Larry A. Williamson Jr. of Columbus; two daughters, Leah L. Mitchell of Columbus, and Lisa V. Herring of Lorain; sisters, Rachel Lipfort of Northfork, W.V., Zianola (Roosevelt) Gilbert of Columbus, and Inez Carter of Colorado Springs, CO; 18 grandkids; 49 great-grandkids; 6 great-great grandkids; many nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Dola Fulton; adoptive parents, Floyd and Lucy Witcher; daughter, Betty Jean Abbington; 5 brothers, Nathaniel, flournoy, Eugene, Felix, and Wade Witcher; 2 sisters, Vera Witcher, and Seronia Clark; granddaughter, Sara Parks; great-granddaughter, Alena Williams.
