Mamie Ruth Johnston Ellis, sunrise April 6, 1931- sunset February 13, 2017; Mamie was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Vera Allen and Fred Elliott. Mamie was employed at the Old Neil House Hotel until she married Carroll Johnston in 1950 there union produced 11 children, her husband died at an early age and left her to raise 10 children, after her children were grown, she raised some of her grandchildren. Mamie always enjoyed being with family and friends and always had a houseful, she opened her doors to any and all, she always said her house is home to many and it truly was. Mamie was a faithful member of Higher Ground Always Abounding Ministries Church where she attended up until her illness. She loved going to St. Stephens Community Center Senior Services going to dances and out to eat or shop with the seniors. She was loved by all who knew her. Mamie is preceded in death by her parents; Daughters Linda Jean, Robin Denise, Montel Sherice, son James Dwayne, brothers Edward, Donald and Bobby, grandson Trilane and granddaughter Yolonda, husbands Carroll Johnston and Eddie Ellis. Mamie leaves to cherish her memory daughters Carolyn, Pamela (Lee) Foster, Tonya Johnston and Martie Johnston all of Columbus, Ohio, sons Clifford (Laurie) Johnston, Billy Johnston of Columbus, Ohio, 42 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 23 great great grandchildren sisters Gloria Elliott of Philadelphia, PA Betty Thompson of Newark, Ohio, Gladys Elliott, Erma Elliott of Georgia, Shirley Allen of Columbus, Ohio, Charlene Baxter of Philadelphia, PA, Edwina Fleminster of Columbus, Ohio and Marie (Danny) Shackleford of Newark, Ohio, brothers Freddie (Josephine) Elliott of Massachusetts and John Elliott of Newark, Ohio, Special Niece Vera Pleasant and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and adopted children and grandchildren. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who helped take care of mommie during her illness Martie, Simone, Billy, Little Bill and Lonnie be proud of how you cared for your mom and granny.
