Lester W. “Champ” Rutland, age 84 of Columbus, Ohio was called home,December 16, 2020, to be with our heavenly father. Lester was born to the late Mrs. Lucinda Lightfoot and Mr. Kearny Rutland in Cherokee, Alabama on June 16,1936.
Lester graduated from Cherokee High School where he was a track star and football player, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he became Staff Sergeant until 1961.
He later relocated to Columbus, Ohio, and was employed by the Columbus School Board for 25 years of dedicated service. Lester loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of Apostolic Faith Temple, located at 1634 East Main Street, Columbus, Ohio 43205. He sang with the choir until the time of his passing.
Lester lived and love life to the fullest, he touched so many lives, he was a gift from God, he will be in our lives forever.
Lester W. “Champ” Rutland is preceded in death by parents Mrs. Lucinda Lightfoot and Mr. Kearny Rutland, wife Faye Rutland, brothers Keaney Rutland, Nelson Rutland, Twin "Big brother" Paul Rutland, sister Jessie May Smith, daughter Lois "Moore" Rutland and Stepson Marvin Rutland. Survived by sons William Rutland, Michael Rutland, Duwayne "Tajuana" Rutland, Quentin "Robin" Rutland, daughters Rebecca "Massey" Rutland, Dreama Rutland, Stepdaughters Lovrocka "Newbern" Rutland, Dennis Rutland. Lester has 69 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 10 great-greatgrandchildren. A host of nephews, nieces, and other family members and friends.
