On January 19, 1939, Laura Ethel Virginia was the sixth of 12 children born to Minnie and William Bailey in Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by sisters Eunice Burke, Hannah Pack, and Grace Grace of Columbus, Ohio.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Laura moved to Urbancrest, Ohio, attending Columbus Public Schools. The year 1958 is when she would meet her soon-to-be husband, George Hughes. Following a short courtship, Laura and George would wed on September 9, 1959. The two began to build a warm, welcoming home, raising six beautiful children: three daughters and three sons.

Laura, a devoted wife and mother welcomed family and friends of all ages. Laura loved cooking, talking to her sisters, listening to music and spending time with her family. On the morning of Wednesday April 29, 2026, the Lord called home the wife, mother, grandmother and best friend we all know as Laura Hughes.

She was reunited in heaven with her husband George, daughter Linda, and grandson Phillip. She leaves behind cherished memories of love in her daughter Brenda Hughes (Dennis Bradley), Judy (Daniel) Neal, Frank Hughes, David Hughes, Ronnie Hughes, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Even though our angel has gained her wings, Laura's legacy of love will live on through the lives she touched.
