Joan Regina Nelson

Joan R. Nelson, 94, of the City of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on July 9, 2025. She was born in Columbus. Ohio on April 27, 1931, to the late Thomas and Lucille Johnson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Woody R. Nelson, Sr., sisters Pauline Williams, Helen Patterson, and brother John Ward.

Joan is survived by son Woody, Jr. (Lisa) Nelson, daughters Rochelle (Louis) Wood and Kathy (Kenny) Thompson, grandchildren Chad, Adrian, Amaris, Faith, Jessica, and Hannah. Great-grandchildren Audrey, Grace, Ezra, and Ezekiel. Also, survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joan graduated from East High School in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, Woody Nelson, in 1954. Three children were born: Rochelle, Woody, and Kathy. She was a wonderful and caring mother, wife, and daughter. She worked as a service representative at Grant Medical Center for 37 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family gatherings.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Bethany Baptist Church, 959 Bulen Ave, Columbus, OH 43206 with a Funeral Service immediately following.
