Jessie René Sanders, 81, of Columbus, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on December 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on January 18, 1944, in Eufaula, Alabama, Jessie lived a life rooted in faith, generous love, and service. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, she sought to honor God by loving others, stewarding her gifts, and practicing prayer. Her faith was not merely spoken but lived. It was steady, sincere, and deeply formative for those around her.
Jessie found joy in traveling, often taking cruises and road trips with friends, and was a fashionista. Yet the absolute pleasure of her life was her family. She was married on February 20, 1968, in Anniston, Alabama, to Alvin Sanders. Her belief in them was unshakeable, and she had a way of making them feel seen and loved, regardless of the circumstances she found them in. She had great compassion and a caring heart, often making time for people, no matter how busy she was. If she believed in you, you always had her support.
Jessie served as a long-time member of Hosack Street Baptist Church, viewing her work there as a calling. She was an active and faithful member of the Willie Mae Teague Missionary Circle. Vocationally, she supported the household by working as an administrative clerk at several military facilities.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Ike Jackson. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Sanders Sr., their three children, Beverly Baylor, Alvin Jr. (Caroline) Sanders, Jessina Sanders, and their four grandchildren, Charles Baylor, Hannah Sanders, Gabrielle Sanders, and Princeton Parks.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 11:00 am -12:00 pm with a Funeral Service immediately following at Diehl-Whittaker 1370 East Main Street Columbus, Ohio 43205.
