Carl was the second child born to James Claude Herring and Nellie Kate Thompson on October 2461, 1932. His primary education was obtained at Mount Vernon Elementary school. He also attended Champion Junior Middle School and East High School. As a young child he was baptized into Christ. He was joined in marriage on April 4, 1952 to Wanda J. Croston in Richmond, Indiana. To this Union was born five children. Carl (Sandra) Herring, Jeannine (Charles) Wilson, Wanda (Ron) Talley, Betty (Byron) Brown and Jeffery (Venice) Herring. Carl was drafted into the army in 1952. While in the army he enhanced his boxing skilled in the featherweight division and won many title fights. He was proud of the fact that he held 19 different jobs which consisted from setting up folding chairs at C.D. White Funeral Home also selling programs at The Ohio State Sentinel and an umpire for Columbus Parks and Recreation and The Ohio Baseball Association. He was a clerk and carrier for The United States Post Office. He was also a custodian for the Columbus Public Schools. He was an avid sports fan. He knew the nuances of football, baseball, and boxing, but of all the sports his favorite was horse racing at Beulah Park and Scioto Downs. Carl Passed away unexpectedly April 1, 2019. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He leaves to mourn, three sisters, Joyce, Patricia, and Marshia. Five children, ten grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren with another due to arrive soon and two great-great grandchildren.
