Obituary

The Lord called Jacqueline Mary Frances (Anderson) Cecil, home to be with Him on June 21, 2026, in Springfield, Ohio. She was born on June 5, 1925, in Warriormine, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Henry Preston Cecil Jr.; her sons, Henry Preston Cecil III and Robert Daniel Cecil; her parents, Bennie and Cordi Anderson; her brother, Edward Anderson; her sisters, Juanita English, Camille Dawson, and Dora Jean Wess; and her great-grandson, Isaac Lazarus Viney.

Jacqueline, affectionately known to many as Jackie, was a vibrant, talented, witty, and loving woman of God. She enjoyed watching Westerns, solving Sudoku and crossword puzzles, and reading her Our Daily Bread devotionals each day. She was an avid sports fan and especially loved watching the Olympic Games.
Jackie treasured spending time with her family and loved entertaining—unless, of course, she had already assigned her family the job of entertaining her! She found joy in music, theater, dance, and song, and you could often find her listening to country music, Lawrence Welk, or just about anything with a melody. She happily hummed along to every song—even the ones whose words she didn’t quite know.

Jackie was a devoted leader and faithful member of Wilber Memorial United Methodist Church for approximately 83 years. She was also an active member of the Tazewell Lions Club and was deeply involved in the life of her community. She served as the director of the first senior citizens center in Tazewell, Virginia, and worked at the Tazewell Health Department as its first Black nurse assistant. She also worked and volunteered with Clinch Valley Community Action well into her later years, always finding ways to serve others.

Jackie leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Annetta Peery, Sandra (William) Viney, and Rita Cecil Goodwine; her son, Jack Dahnmon (Yvonne) Cecil; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She also leaves behind her beloved Wilber Memorial United Methodist Church family and the many friends and neighbors in the Tazewell community whom she loved dearly.
Jackie’s 101 years were marked by unwavering faith, joyful service, steadfast love for her family, and a generous spirit that touched countless lives. Her legacy will continue through the many people she encouraged, nurtured, and loved.

Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord. — Matthew 25:23
