Harvey T. Goins, 77, of Columbus, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2025. He was born November 2. 1947 in Carbondale, WV to the late John R. and Kathleen (Medley) Goins.
Harvey was employed by Columbus City Schools until his retirement in 2016. Harvey served his country in the Vietnam War where he received The Bronze Star, awarded for the acts of valor in combat, demonstrating courage and selflessness. He was a paratrooper i the 82nd Air Borne Company. He loved to share experiencing his first jump from a plane!
One of Harvey's greatest passions was physical fitness. Twice he participated in and completed the Columbus 26.2K Marathon Event when he was well into his 50s.
He accepted Christ at an early age. Experienced water baptism in a creek near his home church, Carbondale Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery, WV. He had many wonderful memories of growing up in that little country church, from Christmas and Easter plays to the dreaded scripture memory verse recital. Yes, he knew very well, that "Jesus Wept" (John 11:35) two short word that saved him in more that one recital. Of course he jockeyed for first position to speak, just in case.
Just a few years ago, Harvey and his sister Joyce were eager students in a home Bible Study taught by his sister Rita. There was a hint of the competitive young man that would spring up when the time came to be tested on topics discussed.
Harvey met and married the love of his life Cynthia with whom he shared 55 years of friendship, love and support.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents John and Kathleen Goins; brother, John Goins, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Goins; loving children, Lashawna Goins-Kyles, Lachelle (Patrick) Hopkins; grandchildren, Donovan Kiles and Dante Goins; sibling, Joyce D. Goins, Anthony "Tony" C. Goins, Katrina C. Goins, Wilbert L. "Chuck" (Betty) Goins, Rita M. (Ralph) Hillman.
As the senior Patriarch of the Goins Clan, Harvey was also the uncle to more that 100 nieces and nephews, who would be quick to share that they all knew and received often Harvey's humor, compassion, loving spirit and exemplary work ethic.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27th, 2025 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm with a Funeral Service immediately following at New Faith Baptist Church, 955 Oak Street, Columbus, Ohio 43205. Burial will process to Evergreen Burial Park.
