Harry A. Waters Jr., age 77, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025. Born on January 15, 1948, in Macon, Georgia, Harry was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother whose strength, service, and dedication to family left a lasting legacy.
Harry was a proud graduate of Central High School, Class of 1966. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict. He was stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam, where he served with honor and distinction. Harry was awarded a Purple Heart and multiple Merit Awards and received an Honorable Discharge in 1969. Following his military service, Harry worked for 26 years with the City of Columbus Traffic Engineering Department. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
A homebody at heart, he found joy in life’s simplest routines. Friday nights were his favorite, always reserved for his favorite meal—pizza, time spent with his loved ones during the holidays, and the joy of spending time with his best friend and grandson Malik.
Harry shared 47 years of marriage with his late wife, Sheila A. Waters. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on love and faith. He is survived by his devoted daughter Sanika Waters; stepdaughters Tammy and Lisa Hunter; grandsons Malik Peterson and Dronte Lewis; granddaughters Maliyah Peterson, Darriel Hunter, Melasia Hodge, and Melvin-Nea Hodge; and great-grandsons Terron Geiger, Drixton Lewis, and Jaxxon Barnett.
Also cherishing his memory are his loving sisters Angela Waters Wheeler, Constance Hook, and Gwendolyn Waters, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila A. Waters, his parents Harry A. Waters Sr. and Bertha Meadows Waters, his mother-in-law Bertha Marshall, his siblings Brenda & Benjamin Waters, his brother-in-law Robert Hook, his Nephew Billy Hook, and his great-nephews Perniel Hook and Rossco McClanahan.
A man of courage, resilience, and deep love for his family, Harry’s presence will be missed and his memory treasured by all who knew him.
