Harriett was born on March 4, 1934 in Greensboro N.C. to Albert and Cleo McAdoo. Harriet was known by her family and close friends by her nickname, “Toot.” When she was 5 years old, her family moved to Columbus, Ohio where she remained.
Harriett attended school in Columbus, Ohio, she completed her education and married Clyde Whiteside. Harriett began her professional career at The Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, as an Administrator. She was proud of her position with BVR and received numerous awards and recognition for her hard work and dedication. Throughout her career she assumed greater responsibilities, even learning sign language to help her assist and communicate with clients. Harriett worked for BVR for over 40 years before retiring.
Harriett had numerous hobbies and gifts that she shared with everyone. She was an amazing home cook and seamstress who also enjoyed knitting and crocheting as well as pencil drawing. Harriett loved to travel and read. She was a life-long learner.
Harriett gave her life to Christ at an early age and devoted herself to doing God’s work. She was a Charter member of Holy Temple of God Inc. where she served as a Missionary, assisting Boy Scouts, the food pantry (bread ministry), and international shoebox ministry. Harriett loved to garden and planted spring flowers on the church grounds. Harriett sang in the choir and taught arts and crafts in Vacation Bible School. She also served on the Trustee Board and Mother’s Board.
Harriett is preceded in death by her father (Albert), mother (Cleo) husband (Clyde), brother (Raymond), brother (Kermit), son (Micheal), son (Sidney) and grandson (“Jay”). Harriett is survived by her daughters; Deborah Smith (Henry), Beverly Whiteside, and Carol Morrison (Ken). Host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, cousins, and devoted friends.
Friends will be received for Visitation at Holy Temple Church of God Inc at 1072 E 14th Ave, Columbus, OH 43211 on Tuesday, January 27th, 2026 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm. Services will be held at Holy Temple Church of God Inc at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, January 27th, 2026 until 1:00 pm followed immediately by interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.
