In Loving Memory of Gloria Moon (“Budd-Budd”)

Gloria Moon, lovingly known as “Budd-Budd,” was born Gloria Dean Taylor on August 17, 1928, to sharecroppers Ed and Nina Taylor in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. From humble beginnings in a small Southern town, she carried a heart full of faith, strength, and compassion that would touch countless lives. As a young woman, she followed her oldest sister Willie to Columbus, Ohio, in search of opportunity in a big city and a fuller life. While working as a seamstress at Montaldos department store, she met her beloved husband, James Jeffrey Moon. They were united in marriage on August 6, 1966, sharing a bond of love until his passing in October 1995.

Though she had no biological children of her own, Glorias life was defined by her nurturing spirit. She was a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend to all who crossed her path. With honesty that reflected her Southern roots and love that knew no limits, she welcomed everyone as family. In her presence, people felt seen, accepted, and cared for.

A devoted woman of faith, Gloria built lasting connections within many church communities, including Mount Olivet Baptist Church. She found joy in fellowship, traveling, cruises, revivals, and church retreats. She loved dancing, knitting, gospel music, and gathering with loved ones. Her laughter was contagious, her presence comforting, and her spirit unforgettable. She was truly the life of the party and a source of warmth wherever she went. In her later years, she shared cherished companionship with her devoted partner and caregiver, George Silar.

Gloria was called home to be with the Lord on February 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, fierce love, and boundless kindness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Jeffrey Moon; her parents; her siblings Willie Z. Blake, Agnes Taylor, and Lawrence Taylor; her niece Nina Carmon-Smith and her life partner Richard P. Smith; and Early Tabler.
