Obituary

Geraldine “Gerry” (Harden) Carter was born on June 14th, 1945, in Molena, Georgia, and passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026.

A devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and a cherished aunt, Gerry spent most of her life in Columbus, Ohio, where she built a legacy of love, faith, and joy that will continue to shine through all who knew her.

Gerry had a remarkable gift for making life feel full. She worked for R.G. Barry and General Motors for many years before retiring. She loved to travel, often setting out on adventures with family and friends, collecting memories that became treasured stories. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she found great joy in celebrating the Lord alongside her devoted husband, David. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion. She loved cooking and hosting, bringing people together through food, fellowship, and joy.

Creative, energetic, and endlessly curious, Geraldine embraced hobbies with enthusiasm. She crocheted and sewed with skill and care, crafting pieces that carried her love in every stitch. She lit up dance floors, enjoyed roller skating, and never turned down a good game of bingo. Her interests were as wide as her heart, and she approached each one with a spirit of fun and connection.

Geraldine also had an undeniable sense of style. She loved fashion and took pride in putting together outfits that reflected her vibrant personality — bold, joyful, and full of life. Whether dressed for church, a night out, or a simple day around town, she carried herself with grace and flair. Her signature style was a reflection of the beauty she brought into the world.

Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Naomi Harden; her beloved husband, David Carter; her sisters, Betty Dawson (Husband Charles Dawson), Emma Myers, Josephine Harden; and her brothers Lawrence Little Bro Harden (Wife Mary Elizabeth Harden), Lloyd Harden (Wife Sally Harden, who survives), Ronnie Harden, and Ricky Harden.

She is survived by her loving children, Tonya (Jay) Brown, Jeffrey (Tonya) Carter, and David Carter; her cherished grandchildren, Ashleigh Brown, Jeffrey Carter II, Briana Brown, and Aliyah Brown; her great-grandchildren, Vanessa and Scarlett; and her siblings, Mary Elaine Harden, Ervin Harden, Delores Givens, Dorthy Harden, and Willie Harden. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Gerry’s life was a beautiful testament to love, faith, and family. Her memory will be cherished forever by all who had the blessing of knowing her.

Friends will be received for Visitation at Rhema Christian Center, 2100 Agler Rd, Columbus, OH 43224, on Thursday, April 16th, 2026, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, with Funeral Services immediately following. Burial will be processed for interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estate.
