Ellenstine Hampton

September 2, 1932 — April 5, 2013

Ellenstine Hampton was born September 2, 1932 to Blucker Crawley and Ruth Denson in Cincinnati, Ohio. On Friday, April 5, 2013, an angel stopped by Grant Hospital to take her home to be with the Lord. She spent her early years between Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, and attended South High School. While living in Cincinnati, she met Clarence Brookins. The couple moved to Louisville, Kentucky, and had two children. Upon relocating back to Columbus, she met and married George Hampton and that union produced four children. She was employed by The Ohio State University Hospital for many years from where she retired. Ellenstine loved books and was an avid reader. However, her greatest loves were her children and grandchildren. Spending time with family brought her tremendous joy and she loved attending family reunions. Ellenstine received the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior at a very early age and was baptized. Her television was always tuned to a Christian channel as she enjoyed hearing the word of God. She made sure her children were brought up with Christian values. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, brother Harold Gendrew, and sister Evelyn Towns. Ellenstine leaves to cherish her precious memories, two daughters, Delores Brookins and Rhonda Nivins; four sons, Stanley (Jackie) Brookins, Michael Hampton, Ken Hampton, and Dennis Hampton; sisters, Janice Walker of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jean Turnbow of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers, Joe (Janice) Gendrew, Larry Gendrew, and Anthony Gendrew, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; special cousins, Loretta Fanning of Detroit, Michigan and John and Jan White of North Carolina, and a host of other relatives and many friends.
