Dorothy “Pep” Mack, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, April 19, 2026. She was born on June 30, 1944, in Dixon Mills, Alabama to Lucretia (Lucy) and Dossie Griffin. She was baptized at a young age at Shiloh Baptist Church in Dixon Mills and was a graduate of Marengo High School.
She later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she met and married her husband, Charlie Mack. Out of this union, which lasted nearly 50 years prior to her husband’s death, their son Curtis “Curt” Mack was born.
She retired from Anheuser-Busch after many years of service and was a long-time member of Mt Olivet Baptist Church.
Pep was just an amazingly devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She had a beautiful smile that could light up a room and a cheerful personality to match. An excellent cook, Pep loved cooking for family and hosting family gatherings in her home during the holidays and special occasions. She kept such an immaculate home and was teased that her house did not look lived in, but it was and she filled it with so much love, laughter and warmth.
She loved music, taking family pictures, a well-manicured yard, pretty flowers, and beautiful clothes. And, like her late sister Lois, she was a fashion diva. She was also an avid sports fan, enjoyed the soaps, particularly most recently “Beyond the Gates”, and could enthusiastically converse with anyone about sports, politics and current events.
Like her son Curt, Pep always had a positive, upbeat attitude about people and life. She was a joy to be around, kind, considerate, generous, and thoughtful to everyone she met. She will be deeply missed, but her radiant spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to have known and will forever love her.
Pep was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Mack; son Curtis Mack; parents Lucretia and Dossie Griffin; sisters Carrie (Clyde) Hackworth, Lois (Joe) Cummings, Barbara (Carl) Curtis and Doris Palmer (Steve Faison); brother James Douglas Griffin; nieces Carlynn Mae (Curtis) Robinson and Donna Jean Griffin; nephews Larry Cummings, Michael Hackworth and Keith Hackworth.
