David L. Carter, 83, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away August 22, 2025. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 23rd, 1942 to Lewis Carter and Evelyn (Lee) Carter.
David was a beloved husband of 58 years to Geraldine and a devoted father to three children: Tonya, Jeffrey, and David. He was a strong, kind and selfless man whose life was marked by love, faith, and service.
David worked for General Motors and Westinghouse for many years, known for his dedication and work ethic. A man of many trades like carpentry, roofing, and masonry enable David to become an entrepreneur, invest in real estate properties and starting his own business, owning a beauty salon. His hands developed not just homes—but opportunity and a legacy.
David was a close and loving brother to all his siblings, offering steady support, laughter, and strong family bonds. A gregarious man, David found joy in traveling the world, learning about cultures and meeting new people. Sharing stories and showing all the many pictures he took of his trips, made you feel like you were there with him. Making friends everywhere he went came effortlessly to David. David also loved fishing, swimming, taking cruises, and being surrounded by family and friends. He was the rock of his family and loyal to his loved ones. David was always willing to help in any way he could.
He was a faithful member of Rhema Christian Center, serving on the Usher Board and living out his faith through daily acts of kindness.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three infant brothers, four sisters- Mildred, Eva, Barbara, and Ernestine. He leaves behind to cherish his memories and live out his legacy, his children Tonya (Jay) Brown, Jeffrey (Tonya) Carter, David Carter, his grandchildren Ashleigh, Jeffery II, Briana, Aliyah, and great-grandchildren Vanessa and Scarlett, along with his siblings John, Robert, Raymond (Winnie), Karen, and Paul (Flora) Carter, also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
David’s legacy is one of love, wisdom, and unwavering dedication. His life touched many, and his impact will be felt for generations.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 from 10:00 - 11:00 am with a Funeral Service immediately following at Rhema Christian Center, 2100 Agler Road Columbus, Ohio 43224. Burial will process to Glen Rest Memorial Estates, Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
