Arnetta Bland Stinson, 103, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully on July 27,
2025. Arnetta was born on March 13, 1922 in Glouster, Ohio, the oldest child of
William Dewey Bland and Rachel Price Bland.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Glouster, Ohio and sang in the youth
choir. After high school, Arnetta furthered her education at Ohio University and
Ohio State University. After moving to Columbus, she worked for the State of
Ohio Bureau of Workmen’s Compensation for 30 years, and following retirement,
as a part-time receptionist at Wesley Glen Nursing Home in Columbus. Her
interests included sewing, cooking, growing house plants, selling Mary Kay skin
products, and spending time with family and friends.
She was a volunteer usher at the Ohio Theater in Columbus for several years and
enjoyed attending movies, ballets, symphonies and operas for free whenever she
ushered. Her favorite actor was Robert Taylor, and she had seen most, if not all,
of his many films. She lived many years in the Park Plaza Apartments across from
Franklin Park, until the last year of her life. Arnetta was an avid reader
(sometimes finishing 300 pages in 2-3 days) until reading became difficult. She
enjoyed watching soap operas and news programs and getting home-cooked
meals from her nieces. To the world she was Arnetta, but to her nieces and
nephews she has always been “Auntie Net.”
Arnetta was a member of St. Philip Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbus for
many years and was featured in the church’s newsletter at her 100 th birthday
celebration. Once asked the secret for her longevity, she said “clean living.” She
also had the amazing gift of living in the present, in today, not regretting the past
or fearing the future. Her mind stayed sharp and her demeanor pleasant to the
end.
In addition to her parents, Arnetta was pre-deceased by her sister Dorothea
Bland; brothers Albert and Reginald Bland; nephew Michael Bland; sister-in-law
Helen Bland; and cousins Janet Bland Pierce and Kay Bland Jones. She leaves to
cherish her memory, nieces Deena Davis-Hughes, Brenda Hammonds and Melissa
Bland; great-nephews Terence Hammonds and Jonathan Davis; great-great niece
Janiyah Davis; special friends Virginia and Josephine Mitchell; cousins Jim, Ronald,
June, Kelli, Merryl and Roxanne Bland; other relatives, and friends.
The family wishes to thank HomeWell Care Services, Majestic Care of Columbus
and Wesley Glen Hospice for the excellent care and love provided for Arnetta.
Arnetta especially loved Tamara (Dee Dee), Cheryl, Greg, Tiffany and Amanda,
who were like family to her.
