“The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear.” Armetta Mable (Grear) Smith, affectionately known as “Mema”, was called home to be with the Lord on June 6, 2012. Armetta was born on April 21, 1922 in Beckley, WV to the parents of Charles and Oretha Grear. She was the third of five children; and was raised by her Aunt Mable Washington until the age of 8, when she returned home to be with her family. Armetta graduated from Douglas High School in Huntington, WV; and attended West Virginia State College where she majored in business. Armetta was a God fearing woman that loved to read her bible. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and collecting dolls. Her home was always open to all especially children. Armetta was preceded in death by her parents Charles Oretha Grear; husband William “Big Bill” Smith; sons - Wilbur Junior, John, and Earl; and brothers – Leonard, Carl and William (Effie). Her memory is left to be cherished by: her sons– William “Rip”, Wilbur Jack, Bryan (Rochelle), and Ryan (Eva); daughters – Carolyn and Deborah; sister – Dorothy Morgan; god-sister – Arnetta Smith; sister-in-law – Nevonia Grear; 24 grand-children, 42 great grand-children, 15 great-great grand-children; and a host of god-children, nephews, nieces, and loved ones.
