Columbus

Alma Lucinda Ann Wade, 86, a cherished matriarch and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at Mount Carmel East, surrounded by her loving family. Alma had resided in Brittany Hills for the last 56 years, where she was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Lovingly known as "Maw Maw," Alma was born on June 5, 1938, at Mount Carmel West Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Linwood and Eunice (Ragland) Grady. She was the second of their eight children.

Alma attended Linden McKinley High School, where she met Clarence Miller, her future husband and the father of her five daughters. Within seven years, Alma found herself raising five girls on her own. Despite challenging times and financial hardship, while living in a run-down housing development on Rich Street, she met her life partner Calvin Wade, whom she would eventually marry in 1986. Alma persevered, transforming her love of cooking into a successful career. Along her journey, she forged lasting friendships with her best friends, Valerie Hardrick, Robin Penn, and Brennie Passov. After 25 years as the head of the executive dining room at Huntington National Bank, Alma also privately catered until her retirement. Even in retirement, she continued to share her culinary talents with her family, using food to bring loved ones together. She found immense joy and fulfillment in gathering family and friends for holidays, birthdays, graduations, and church events.

Alma's profound love for the Lord was a guiding force throughout her adult life. A devoted member of Greater 12th Baptist Church since 1985, she faithfully served as a deaconess, Sunday school leader, and choir member, sharing her unwavering commitment to Christ with all her loved ones.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Linwood and Eunice Grady; her husband Calvin E. Wade; her brothers, Linwood Jr., George, and Michael(Chylene)Grady; her sister, Bertha Woodson; her daughters, Regina Flemister and Vanya Clark; her grandchildren, Tracey (Elmore) Miller-Torbert and Calvin Miller; her great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Carter and Kelis Minnis; and her great-great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Robertson-Rutland, Dominique Nichols and Darnell Taylor.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Beverly Miller, Arlinda (George) Taylor, and Cynthia (Tony) Sellers; her brothers, Alvis, Vincent, and Darrell (Pam) Grady; sister in law Chylene Grady; her grandchildren, Brian Miller Sr., Paul (Nakea) Flemister, Alma Miller, Marlinda Miller, Curtis Miller, Karen Bell, Eric (Rebecca) Bell, Christina Bell, Ashley Clark, Timothy Ferguson, Melissa Carter, and Jessica Sellers.
