SPURGEON WALL, JR., the eighth of nine children, was born to the late Spurgeon Wall, Sr. and Winnie Lee Wall on March 22, 1928 in Pee Dee, Anson County, North Carolina. He went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 29, 2020 at the University Hospital East in Columbus, Ohio. Spurgeon was affectionately known to family and friends as Spurg, June, and Bro. He received his formal education through the school district in Lilesville, North Carolina. After completing school, he joined the United States Army, serving during World War II and received an Honorable Discharge. After his service in the Army he returned to Hamlet, North Carolina, for a while but soon left to join his uncles in Columbus, Ohio, where he made his home. Spurgeon was a sports fan and loved the Ohio State Buckeyes. He joined and served faithfully as a Deacon in Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio and was happy when his sisters from Pennsylvania and New York would come up and join him in church service. There, he remained faithful until his health began to fail, and served his last 4-5 years at Summits Trace Nursing Home. Spurgeon met and married LuFrances S. Bennett and they shared a happy life until the Lord called her home on Friday, October 9, 2015. They were so much in love and both were sports fans and traveled together often. Spurgeon was pre-deceased by both parents; Spurgeon Sr. & Winnie Lee Wall; oldest sister, Eloise Coleman and younger brother, Jasper Leroy Wall. He leaves to cherish his memory four sisters: Lillie Mae Smith (Albert), Hamlet North Carolina; Winnie P. Simmons, Baltimore, Maryland; Bessie L. Wall, and Esther E. Jones, both of Chester, Pennsylvania; and one loving and caring brother who looked after him, Willie T. Wall (Margie) of Buffalo, New York; one sister-in-law, Cheryl Wall, Hamlet, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, who also cared for him, cousins & friends.
