Montressa Faye Turner

Montressa Faye Turner was born October 14, 1914 in Oakwood, Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Arts at The Ohio State University, a Master of Arts at Xavier University, and completed some advanced studies at the University of London, United Kingdom. During the course of Montressa's career as a Columbus, Ohio educator, she worked as a teacher, elementary school principal and program supervisor for Model Cities prior to retiring with over 35 years of dedicated service. Additionally, she held positions on the Board of Directors for both the Alvis House and the Heritage House, and was a longtime member of The Carousels, Inc. of Columbus, Ohio (Founding Chapter), Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and The Batchelor Girls (Les Modernes). Montressa passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2011 at Traditions Healthcare - Stygler Road. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley W. Turner, parents Julia A. Williams and James Phillips, four sisters, Vivian , Aretta Goings, Gwendolyn Suel, and Audrey Phillips, and brother Tom Williams. Left to cherish memories of Montressa are her daughters LaRetta Turner and Sharon Turner-Blunt (Don); grandchildren, Shahara Turner, Shauna (David) Foster, LaTanya Adams, Shermain Hancock, and Tyrone (Kandys) Turner; spiritual daughters Ann Wagner Hill and Virginia Burris McLymont; 18 great- and great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relative and friends. Memorial Service 12 noon, Monday, November 14, 2011 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 166 Woodland Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the start of service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the St. Philip's Church Food Pantry.
