LaVonna Kincaid, age 78, passed away peacefully with family on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at The Ohio State University Medical Center. LaVonna was born November 7, 1939, to Benjamin and Lois Bell in Logan, WV. She graduated from central high school but did not stop there. As a young mother of five small children doing it practically on her own; LaVonna put herself through college. She had a thirst for knowledge. She studied at many different schools and graduated from both Franklin University and The Ohio State University. After graduation, LaVonna worked as a social worker and supervisor for The Department of Human Services from 1973 until she retired in 1998. However, if you knew LaVonna, you knew she couldn’t sit still. By 2000, she was working for an agency called On My Own. On My Own assisted adults with special needs and disabilities to become independent, social, and contributing members of society. LaVonna loved helping others. She spent her weekends and free time caring for her elderly and disabled family and friends, and anyone else who needed her. She also found the time to volunteer for various groups. She volunteered for Ujima Theatre, Nia Performing Arts, and Woman to Woman, which supported victims of domestic violence who were falsely imprisoned. LaVonna also volunteered for MOMS (Mothers Against Maltreatment of Service Members). As recognition for her volunteer work, LaVonna received an award from the King Arts Complex. She also received an award presented to her from the state of Ohio by Governor Celeste. LaVonna also loved fishing, game shows, playing cards, bingo, traveling, sweets, and her family. She never forgot a birthday and never missed a special event. She was also a woman of faith. She attended both Greater Grace Apostolic Church pastored by Lawrence Mackey and AASAC Community Church pastored by Yusef Weston where she acted as Church Treasurer. LaVonna is preceded in death by her father, Benjamin (Arneta) Bell; mother, Lois Hailey; sisters, Bertha Hollingsworth and Eunice Clancy; and son, Franklin Denby. She is survived by her sister, Shirley White; children, Rick Denby, Carla (John) King, Donovan (Cathy) Denby, Cheryl (Sebastian) Foster; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
