Hattie Mae Vanarsdale

January 28, 1946 — June 1, 2022

Hattie Mae Vanarsdale, age 76, of Columbus, Ohio, was born in Crawfordville, Georgia on January 28, 1946 to David Lee and Sarah (Allen) Mayes. After a dedicated life of serving the Lord and loving her family she went home to be with our heavenly Father on June 1, 2022. At a young age, her parents relocated to Columbus, Ohio with her older siblings, George and Mary. Hattie went on to graduate from Central High School. Soon after graduating she was wed to John H. Vanarsdale in December of 1964. From their union, they had three daughters, Stephanie, Trivonda and Sonya. John and Hattie were married for 57 years. Hattie was a devoted member of the Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where she was a cherished parishioner for 69 years. She was blessed with a melodic soprano voice and enjoyed singing in choirs since she was very young. She went on to direct the mass choir at the church and also assisted with the children’s choir for many years. She became well known for belting out gospel favorites such as, “I Must Tell Jesus,” “My Soul Has Been Anchored,” “Order My Steps.” All who knew her, knew that she was a strong woman of faith. She stood firmly on the Word of God on every occasion and was the embodiment of a Proverbs 31 woman. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She was always ready to share a word of encouragement, a smile, laughter, patience, kindness, and good sound advice. She was a blessing to many and she will be sorely missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; David L. Mayes, Sarah Mayes and sister, Mary L. Mayes. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband; John H. Vanarsdale, daughters; Stephanie, Trivonda, and Sonya Vanarsdale, all of Columbus, OH; brother, George (Brenda) Mayes, grandchildren; Michael Vanarsdale, Cedrick McIntyre, Diamond McIntyre, and Alicia Vanarsdale, great-grand-daughter; Anaiyah Michelle Stroughter and a host of family and friends.
