Edith Patience Charlton, age 94, born June 21, 1920 in Coalwood, WV, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 2, 2015, after a long illness. She was a graduate of Excelsior High School in War, WV, where she met the love of her life, Arthur L. Charlton. They were married 61 years and had 3 wonderful children. A wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, Edith was a faithful member of True Vine Baptist Church, where she sung in the choir. She was also a member of the Excelsior Alumni Chapter in War, WV and after moving to Ohio, she joined the Columbus Chapter in 1992. Preceded in death by her husband, sons, Maurice Charlton and Norman Charlton, Sr., parents, Willie and Lilly Turpin, brothers, William (Josephine) Turpin and Levi Haynes, sisters, Delia Haynes-Gray and Samantha (Gus) Miles, and grandchildren, Rachael L. Charlton and Ryan Owens. Survived by daughter Debra Charlton-Garrett of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Charmaine, Jahmal, Maurice Jr. (Leslie), Sean, Carmen, Norman Jr. (Tamara), all of Columbus; great grandchildren, Tylan, Jayce, Devonte, Mauricia, Annie, Jared, Maurice III, Wesley, Shaun, Lamar, Taco, Sydney, and Chaz; daughters-in-law, Denise, Barbara, and Arthella, all of Columbus; brother-in-law Ray Charlton of Honolulu, HI; special nieces, Pauletta Turpin, Tina Turpin, and Jeanette (Earl) Lee of Columbus; special nephew, Thomas Crider of South Bend, IN; and a host of other relatives and friends.
