Cynthia Arlene (Westmoreland) Lawson went home to be with the Lord, peacefully, on February 19, 2018 after battling with Lewy-Body Dementia for over three years. Cynthia, originally from Springfield, Ohio, was the sixth of eight children born to Wallace and Margaret Westmoreland. After graduating from Springfield South High School, Cynthia attended Central State University, in Wilberforce, Ohio, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She worked a variety of jobs over her career including Investment Banking and Human Resources. However, Cynthia derived her greatest professional pleasure in her work with children; first, as an in-home day care provider, and finally as an elementary school teacher. Nonetheless, the pride of Cynthia’s life were her two sons and four grandchildren -- to know Cynthia, was to know her family and she unabashedly praised them. A devout Christian, Cynthia had been a member of St. John’s Baptist Church (Springfield, Ohio), Union Baptist Church (White Plains, New York), Second Baptist Church, Greater Love Baptist Church, Flintridge Baptist Church, and Christ Memorial Baptist Church. Additionally, Cynthia served on a number of community boards, civic associations, and was a member of the National Council of Negro Women. In addition to her parents, Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Jaye Lawson (2000), three brothers, Wallace, Ashley and Stephen Westmoreland, and her older sister June Jackson. Cynthia is survived by her aforementioned sons, Jason (Abralyn) Lawson and Daron Lawson; grandchildren, Malcolm, Myles, Makenna and Morgan; sisters, Toby Truss, Sharon King, and Rebekah (Napoleon) Biles; mother-in-law Susan Glenn; sister-in-law Joyce Casey; and a host of nieces, nephews, wonderful friends and “adopted” children. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made either to Bella Care Hospice or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
