Bette D. Coles

Bette Ann (Della Flora) Coles, 75, of Columbus, OH, passed away Saturday March 28, 2020 at Kobacker House. She was born November 2, 1944 to Valentino Della Flora and Jessie Mae Thatcher in Dunbar, WV. A 1962 graduate of Dunbar High School, Bette earned a Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia State College (1966) and a Master’s degree from the University of Kentucky (1968). She was employed over 40 years with Columbus City Schools, during which time she worked in various capacities including teaching students who struggled with reading. Bette was a member of Karl Road Baptist Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. In addition to her parents, Bette was predeceased by husband Harold George Coles, son Jesse Andrew Coles, and brother Carl Ray Della Flora. She is survived by her daughters, Olympia Della Flora of Stamford, CT, and Valentina Coles of Columbus, OH; sister Virginia Claire Beaver of Grove City, OH; granddaughter Jessena Coles; son-in-law Jason Williams; sister-in-law Mildred Della Flora; special friend Avertis Dawson; beloved pet Snowball; and a host of other relatives and friends. Due to current public health restrictions, the family will hold a memorial celebration to be announced at a later date.
