Arthur Samuel Thomas was born September 15, 1948 to Arthur S. and Betty Jane (Cooper) Thomas in Youngstown, Ohio. He affectionately came to be known as “Bumper” by his friends and family. He attended South High School in Columbus, Ohio, and later entered into active duty with the United States Army. While serving in Vietnam, from 1968 to 1970, Art earned a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar, and a Combat Infantryman Badge. Art was proud to have been employed by Continental Real Estate Companies where he was an honest and faithful worker for more than 36 years. For ten years, he attended Greater Liberty Temple Church of God In Christ where he worshiped faithfully and gave of himself freely. On January 23, 2018, at the age of 69, Arthur departed this life to be with our Lord and Savior. His parents preceded him in death. Those who remain to cherish memories of Art include his wife of 25 years, Diane Johnson-Thomas; son Arthur S. Thomas, Jr.; daughter Melissa (Michael Jr.) Thomas; brother Charles T. Thomas; grandchildren, Hannah Thomas, Madeline Thomas, Michael Thomas, III, and Grace Thomas; father-in-law Clyde Johnson, Sr. (Juanita); brothers-in-law, Clyde Johnson, Jr. (Lisa) and Kevin Johnson (Tanya); sisters-in-law, Patricia Johnson, Annette Sherman, and Toyia Bangura; nephews, Cameron Johnson, Christopher Johnson, and Clyde Johnson, III; special aunt Wanda L. Penn; special friends, Rachel Bibb and Mike Thomas; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
